Charli Explores STEM™ Series: Educational Information Charli is a young girl who imagines herself in various STEM-related careers. These 96-page transitional chapter books are for Grades 2-3. This series serves several purposes: 1) Each book showcases STEM as being fascinating and fun. 2) Each book improves literacy by modeling a circular narrative, as well as the author's voice. 3) Each book helps readers transition from picture books to chapter books, encouraging them to construct more meaning from text than from visual clues. 4) Each book enables readers to make connections to their own lives, communities, and aspirations. 5) Each book exposes readers to a specific STEM career, thus expanding their knowledge and vocabulary bases. 6) Each book explores a career for which at least one STEM component is necessary, as well as practically applied. Thus, readers are encouraged to pursue and be empowered by STEM education. 7) In each book, Charli demonstrates leadership, problem solving skills, working well with others, empathy, and community-mindedness. 8) Each book encourages readers to believe in themselves and in their ability to achieve their aspirations.

BUY NOW Lexile Level: 690L Synopsis When Charli meets an engineer at Career Day, she can't stop thinking about what it would be like to be an engineer herself. Soon, she is lost in an engineering daydream, designing a tracking device that will let a rescued dolphin return to the ocean. But will creating a device that can attach to the dolphin and work underwater be more than Charli can handle? BUY NOW Industry Reviews "A rousing story that shows girls getting excited about STEM. Our verdict: GET IT." --Kirkus Reviews " Best of all, the story celebrates problem-solving as a key part of science, showing the steps Charli uses to overcome design problems as they occur in real time—and how rewarding it is when she finds the solutions! Inspiring and informative, Charli’s Dorsal Device is a fantastic new addition to the series." —The Children's Book Review "With a focus on curiosity, persistence, and creativity, Charli’s Dorsal Device is an uplifting book that will inspire children to dream often and dream big." —Indies Today "It would be great for early elementary readers, classrooms doing STEM units, or any family that wants to nudge their kids, especially girls, toward science and engineering without it feeling like a lecture." --The Literary Titan Charli's Dorsal Device An Engineering Adventure (Charli Explores STEM® #3) What if one smart invention could help an animal return home? Follow Charli as her curiosity leads her into the exciting world of engineering and innovation. When Charli meets an engineer and learns how technology can help animals in need, she can’t stop wondering what it would be like to design something that truly makes a difference. Her imagination sparks when she learns about a rescued dolphin that needs help returning safely to the ocean. But the challenge is complex. The device must work underwater, stay secure, and protect the dolphin’s well-being. As imagination turns into action, Charli steps into the role of an engineer—testing ideas, learning from mistakes, and improving her design through perseverance and teamwork. She soon discovers that engineering isn’t about getting everything right the first time, but about problem-solving, creativity, and determination. With Charli’s help, readers explore: • Engineering and STEM careers • Design thinking and problem-solving • How technology can help protect marine animals • The importance of testing, failure, and redesign • Confidence, resilience, and collaboration Perfect for readers ages 6–9, this engaging chapter book encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and early interest in engineering and STEM careers. Ideal for classrooms, homeschoolers, and independent readers, Charli’s Dorsal Device supports STEM learning, social-emotional growth, and career exploration.
